DICK’S VIDEO: WISCONSIN REFORMS IN PERIL

March 31, 2011
Category: Dick's Articles

Dear Friend,

In this video commentary, I explain my take on the swing vote on the court for the Wisconsin Reforms.

On Tuesday, April 5, Supreme Court Judge Dave Prosser — the swing vote on the court — is up for re-election in Wisconsin. If he loses, the Walker reforms on collective bargaining and education reform die with him. The liberals are in the lead with ads saying Prosser=Walker and phony allegations that he did not prosecute a child molestor. We need to get involved, active, and engaged to save Prosser!

CUT FOREIGN AID BUDGET NOW

March 30, 2011
Category: Dick's Articles

Published on TheHill.com on March 29, 2011

As the CR talks between the House Republicans and the administration and Senate Democrats near their deadline, the House negotiators should put America’s foreign aid budget on the table.

With the Democrats reportedly willing to cut about half of the $61 billion the GOP has sought, much of the balance could come from a moratorium in paying out the $50 billion of foreign economic and military aid the United States dispenses every year. Rather than engage in a numerical debate, the Republicans should make the fight about whether to cut the foreign aid budget. Who will defend foreign aid when we have a $1.6 trillion deficit?

OBAMA ON THE HOOK

March 29, 2011
Category: Dick's Articles

With each of his policies, Obama takes a gamble.  If they work, he’s OK.  If they don’t, he’s on the hook for the outcome.  Consider the extent of his exposure:

* His involvement in Libya makes him responsible if Gaddafi stays in power and slaughters his own people and/or renews his connections with international terrorism. Obama will be equally responsible should Gaddafi be toppled and an Iraqi-style civil war erupts between his deposed supporters and the new government.  As General Powell said “you break it, you own it.”

* His support for the rebellion in Egypt and his action in forcing Mubarak from power makes him responsible should the Muslim Brotherhood take over the nation and use it as a basis for promoting terrorism and battling Israel, undoing the Camp David accords.

FORMING TO THE LEFT: A CHALLENGE TO OBAMA

March 23, 2011
Category: Dick's Articles

If President Barack Obama submits his intervention in Libya to Congress for its approval and he was still Senator Barack Obama, he would vote against his own use of force resolution.

Obama has taken the first step into quicksand and will find it impossible to extricate himself. He has been lured by center-right governments in the UK and France to embrace the cause of saving Libyan civilians, a fight he probably cannot accomplish without ground troops and likely cannot win without regime change.

OBAMA’S LIBYA WAR FLUNKS POWELL DOCTRINE TEST

March 21, 2011
Category: Dick's Articles

General Colin Powell’s enduring contribution to American foreign policy is the Powell Doctrine, defining when and how American military power should be used. The Doctrine has three main precepts: Avoid mission creep, clearly define our goals, and plan an exit strategy before you go in. Obama’s Libya intervention flunks on all three counts.

Avoid mission creep? It’s too late. The mission has already crept. It was sold to us as a no-fly zone, designed to stop Gadaffi’s air force from pounding rebel positions, evening the odds in the conflict. Of course, there would be a need to neutralize Gadaffi’s air defenses to protect our planes as they patrolled the skies. But already it is clear that we are bombing everything in sight, crippling Gadaffi’s armor, forcing his withdrawal from key cities, and crippling his command and control structure. It is not a no-fly zone. It is full aerial warfare.

UNEMPLOYMENT: THE TRUE PICTURE

March 21, 2011
Category: Dick's Articles

To paraphrase Mark Twain, the three kinds of lies are lies, damn lies, and government statistics. Governments lie, particularly about economic stats in the middle of a recession and the Obama Bureau of Labor Statistics has refined misrepresenting our economic situation to a high art form.

In a previous column, we reported that Rasmussen’s index of consumer confidence has fallen dramatically since January from a height of 88 to 73 in mid-March. Now, from the Gallup organization comes the reason why: Unemployment is up, not down!

OBAMA: FROM LIBERAL TO INVISIBLE (AND STILL TOO LIBERAL)

March 18, 2011
Category: Dick's Articles

Where is Barack Obama? Is he still in office? As he jets off with his family for a taxpayer-paid vacation in Rio, does he realize the world is falling apart around him?

Does he realize that the radical unrest and disturbances in the Middle East are driving oil and gasoline prices so high that a double dip recession – this time with inflation – is increasingly likely?

Does he get it that the catastrophe in Japan may wipe out 12% of the world’s economy for the time being, creating huge economic problems for the U.S.?

THE DICK MORRIS POLL: AMERICANS BACK GOVERNORS OVER UNIONS

THE DICK MORRIS POLL: AMERICAN VOTERS BACK GOVERNORS AGAINST PUBLIC EMPLOYEE UNIONS

For Immediate Release:

March 17, 2011

The Dick Morris Poll of 1000 likely voters throughout the U.S., conducted by live telephone interviews from March 10-15, 2011, found support for the Republican Governors of Wisconsin, Indiana, and Ohio in their battles with their public employee unions by 47-39.

Voters harshly condemned Democratic State Legislators who are boycotting their legislatures to deny the Republicans a quorum so they cannot pass legislation on collective bargaining and municipal unions. By 61-25, they rejected the Democrats’ argument that the boycotts were “necessary to stop legislation restricting unions from being passed” and said they “should return to the legislature and respect the decisions the voters have made in the last election.”

Commenting on the poll results, Dick Morris said, “The liberal media has tried to sell the myth that the public is siding with the unions in these battles. This poll shows the opposite. They largely agree with the restrictions the governors are trying to impose.”

Voter attitudes toward collective bargaining are complex. They wholeheartedly support the right to collective bargaining by public employees. By 39-59 voters reject elimination of collective bargaining for public employee unions and by 43-48 they oppose limiting the bargaining to wages and benefits. But, by 66-25, voters agree with limiting “collective bargaining so that the union contract does not stop the dismissal of incompetent teachers and allows teachers to be paid based on merit not on seniority.”

For the full results, click here to read the report.

Dick Morris has more than 35 years of polling experience in the U.S. and abroad. He polled for President Clinton and has also has polled for 30 Senators and Governors and 14 foreign Presidents and Prime Ministers.
