With the election of Hakeem Jeffries as the Democratic minority leader in the House, the party has selected both of its legislative leaders from the borough in Brooklyn New York City.
The House Democrats will look to Jeffries of Brooklyn for leadership while their Senate colleagues will look to Brooklyn Senator Chuck Schumer. The epicenter of the new Democratic Party will henceforth be Flatbush.
The rest of the country, west of the Hudson River, apparently doesn’t deserve to participate in the highest councils of the Party.
In this era of cultural, racial, religious, and sexual diversity, whatever happened to geographic diversity?
It is emblematic of the Democrat Party’s insularity that its two leaders in Congress are like a few miles from each other. Politically, they are roommates.
But, in another sense, Jeffries is from the new “woke” black militant wing of the Democratic Party while Schumer is solidly in the mainstream party establishment. The selection of Jeffries, passing over Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md) and Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-SC), the House Democrats have selected a radical new leader who is way to the left of most of his party and, of course of America.
