CONGRESSIONAL ELECTIONS MUST BE ON POLICY, NOT A REFERENDUM ON TRUMP
Most political figures have higher personal favorability than job approval. But Donald Trump is the opposite. He has a higher job approval —48% in John McLaughlin’s August 24th poll — than his personal favorability rating — only 33% in the same survey.
Unlike other pollsters, McLaughlin asks voters:
“Which point of view is closest to your own; Do you approve of both President Trump and his policies, do you disapprove of President Trump like a lot of his policies, or do you disapprove of President Trump and his policies?”
The results are:
Approve of Trump and his policies 33%
Disapprove of Trump but like his policies 15%
Disapprove of Trump and his policies 48%
So 48% approved of Trump’s policies and 48% disapprove, a rating that has held steady in monthly polls for a year.
Republicans must make the midterm elections about President Trump’s policies and programs and contrast them with the increasingly socialist, big government views of the Democrats.
McLaughlin points out that when asked which view they favor, “a Republican who supports free-market capitalism and a Democrat who supports big-government socialism,” the Republican has a 47-40 lead.
Otherwise, when asked who they favor, a Democrat or a Republican, without any ideological reference attached, the Democrats enjoy a 48-43 advantage.
The conventional wisdom holds that it is important for the Republicans to, in effect, put Trump on the 2026 Congressional race ballot and make the vote a referendum on the president. While this strategy obviously works in the Republican primaries, it won’t work in the general elections. The race needs to be a referendum on Trump’s policies not on Trump personally.
Republicans should make clear that Trump cannot run again and will be gone in two years while the midterm elections’ verdict on public policy will last for a decade or more.
So, the election should be about:
- Do you want open borders with new illegal immigration back again as the Democrats propose or do you want illegal immigrants, particularly those convicted of crimes, deported as the Republicans do?
- Do you want the police to be defunded and handicapped by increased personal liability for their conduct as the Democrats propose or do you want higher police funding and protection against lawsuits by those they arrest as the Republicans do?
- Do you want the arrested for crimes to be freed pending adjudication of their cases as the Democrats propose or do you want those arrested held on bail awaiting trial as Republicans do?
- Do you want higher taxes as the Democrats propose or to cut taxes as Republicans do?
- Do you want to ban fracking as the Democrats propose or to expand oil drilling a Republicans do?
- Do you want government regulation of business to expand as Democrats do or to reduce government regulation as Republican propose?
In the race for Congress, it does not matter how individual Democratic candidates frame or hedge their personal positions on these and other key issues, the likely ten new Democratic socialist congressmen about to be elected will force their majorities, if they win them, to the left and hold the “moderates” feet to the socialist fire.
When the choices for Senate and Congress are reframed to reflect accurately the party priorities, Republicans will sweep to victory.

THE IMPACT OF TRUMP’S DEFEAT OF THE AYATOLLAHS
In the new asymmetric world of threatened global economic suicide, President Trump has stripped the terrorists of a terrifying weapon in their toolbox; the threat that the collateral damage of their own and the world’s economists’ overreaction to the use of military force might sink the world’s economies.
In our incestuously interconnected economies, the Ayatollahs in Iran and others have been able to threaten the world with the closing of the Straits of Hormuz — that shaving off a few tenths of a point in economic growth would bring disastrous political consequences in our evenly balanced partisan alliances and calculations.
But now a political leader has summoned the courage to defy the threat and prove it to be hollow. By standing up, Trump has, in effect, told a timid world: “bring it on and make my day.”
More than any strategic advantage that will come from calling Iran’s bluff, is the tactical fact that it can no longer threaten global economic suicide.
Just as MAD – Mutually Assured Destruction – held global insanity in check during the Cold War, so Mutually Assured Economic Destruction has threatened us since. But now not any longer because Trump figured out a way to beat it.
By decapitation strikes early in the war, he assured that enemy calculations would at least be sane and that the madmen were dead. Just as nobody was willing to blow up the world during the Cold War, Trump proved that nobody was willing to blow up their civilization by economic suicide.
It took a leader like Trump who had no skin in the game or oil at risk in the Straits of Hormuz to take the chance. But it did and his courage worked.
It was a messy process and the brinksmanship it had to go through caused more than a few migraines, but Trump has brought us through it in great shape.
It was the fate of great writers and creators like Michelangelo and Tolstoy never to have finished their works of art and literature. Now the Donald Trumps of diplomacy may likewise never finish their works of diplomacy. The Gaza peace is not complete and we wait tensely to see if the Straits will remain open. But the corner seems to have been turned and the process of peace begun.
The world owes Donald Trump a great debt.

DON’T GET STUCK IN IRAN

Presidents fail when their policy objectives become so important to them that they take over their administrations and lead them to destroy themselves.
Johnson in Vietnam, Biden in Afghanistan, and Bush-43 in Iraq are potent examples of how idealism gone astray took over a presidency and led it to ruin.
Will Iran serve as just such a snare for Trump and will his pursuit of regime change lead him to self-destruction?
In Vietnam, in Afghanistan and in Iraq, the president let his military domination blind him to his adversaries’ ability to survive massive battlefield defeats and come back for more. In these cases, the willingness of our adversaries to accept casualties, economic and human, exceeded the ability of the president and the American people to accept pain and led us to humiliating defeats.
We always fail to realize that a massive military arsenal is no match for our enemy’s fanaticism.
It is easy to see how military superiority could lead Trump to overconfidence and his administration to ruin.
The solution is for Trump to abandon regime change as his goal and instead focus on denying Iran the ability to spread terror around the world. Don’t predicate our victory or defeat on our ability to make Tehran see reason and to act based on enlightened self-interest. We must not let our easy win in Venezuela lead us to believe that we can persuade the zealots in Iran to act rationally.
We likely cannot teach Iran to respect the human rights of its own people.
But we can make it impossible for the Iranian regime to spread terror throughout the world and deny it access to nuclear weapons.
That more modest aim, still very worthwhile and deserving, must become our objective even if Iran is allowed to perpetrate horrible harm on its own people and to refuse regime change.
By scaling back our war aims, we can still succeed at the key task — curbing Iran’s ability to inflict massive global economic harm — and emerge “victorious” in this war with our president and our party intact.
We cannot stop Iran from destroying the global economy, but we can stop it from humiliating us and wrecking the global economy.
And that will be good enough.

HUGE REPUBLICAN SWING AFTER STATE OF THE UNION SPEECH
During the Clinton years, State of the Union speeches routinely led to huge upticks in the president’s approval ratings. But in the highly polarized and fiercely partisan environment of today’s politics, they have had little impact other than to reinforce partisan differences among voters.
Trump’s State of the Union speech last week is the exception. Polling by Harvard-Harris, the best firm out there (except for John McLaughlin), shows a mammoth change favoring Republicans after the speech. The GOP went from an 8 point deficit to a tie in voting preferences in the midterm elections. A huge change reminiscent of the swings we used to get in the 90s.
The media has ignored this sea change and even pretends that the president’s sallies against Democrats for not responding to his stories of murders by illegal aliens had no effect. In fact, they had a huge impact. The Democrats’ knee jerk support for illegal immigration has had the effect of stigmatizing the entire party.
When you add in the likely impact of our success in killing Khomeini — and the Democrats’ criticism of Trump for doing so — we may be watching a permanent change in how the country sees the political wars in Washington.
Many voters are reacting against the automatic partisanship of Democrats in condemning Trump for doing very popular things — like killing our worst international enemy — Khomeini — and deporting killers and rapists.
The Democrats may have carried partisanship too far and may be wearing out the welcome from the American people. They are standing against a big popular consensus in favor of Trump’s triumph in Iran and his resolute stand against criminal aliens to their detriment — possibly permanently.
Imagine if, after Pearl Harbor, the opposition party tried to restrain President Roosevelt from reacting, citing the War Powers Act. That’s pretty close to what the Democrats are trying to do today!
The events of this past week — the killing of Khomeini and the partisanship of the Democratic response to the SOTU speech — may have pushed Americans too far.

The Real Story Of Thanksgiving

Below is the real story of Thanksgiving and I am thankful for your support

Squanto, whose real name was Tisquantum, was instrumental in helping the Pilgrims survive and is central to the narrative of the first Thanksgiving. He served as a vital liaison and translator, teaching the Pilgrims how to cultivate local crops and fish in the new land. In the autumn of 1621, after a successful harvest that followed his guidance, the Pilgrims held a feast, likely including the Wampanoag tribe led by Massasoit, and Squanto was present at this event.
Squanto’s role in the first Thanksgiving
Survival and guidance: After the Pilgrims endured a brutal first winter, Squanto, who was fluent in English, helped them learn essential survival skills, such as planting corn and using fish as fertilizer.
Liaison and translator: He acted as an intermediary between the Pilgrims and local Native American tribes, facilitating a peace treaty between the Pilgrims and the Wampanoag Confederacy in 1621.
The feast: The 1621 feast, often called the “first Thanksgiving,” was a harvest celebration for the Pilgrims. Squanto was present at this event, which also included Wampanoag leaders, such as Chief Massasoit. The gathering was not an invitation to the Wampanoag to express gratitude for their help, but a celebration of a successful harvest, as the Wampanoag were likely invited to the celebration because the Pilgrims were shooting off celebratory gunfire, and the Wampanoag were passing by.
Squanto’s unique story
- Enslavement and exile: A decade before the Pilgrims arrived, Squanto was kidnapped by an English explorer and taken to Spain, where he was sold into slavery. He eventually escaped, made his way to England, learned English, and returned to his homeland years later.
Tribe’s fate: Upon his return, he found that his Patuxet tribe had been wiped out by disease.
- “A special instrument”: Squanto was the only surviving member of his tribe when the Pilgrims arrived, and the Pilgrims viewed him as a “special instrument” sent by God to help them survive. He died of a fever in November 1622, just a year after the first Thanksgiving feast.

Supreme Court Holding Up Trump Economic Agenda
The Supreme Court is holding Trump’s entire economic agenda in a state of limbo, taking its good sweet time in reviewing the legality of Trump’s tariffs, inflicting incredible harm on the American economy with each passing — and wasted — week.
This is no ordinary case. The objections the plaintiff raises to Trump’s tariff deals could cripple the entire economic agenda of the Administration. By waiting to issue a decision, the Court is casting world trade, and America’s economic policy into a purgatory while it evaluates arguments against them.
The fact that all agree that current law gives Trump the power to embargo trade with other countries, cutting their imports to the U.S. to zero but waits to see if tariffs, a far less drastic remedy, are legal shows how absurd are the plaintiff’s arguments. The fact that the words “tariff” or “duties” are not specifically enumerated in Trump’s tariffs is a picayune objection and should not be allowed to stall the president’s economic agenda.
Specifically, the president has called for using tariff revenue to offer a rebate to all families. But with the Court holding up everything while it Talmudically weighs the word “tariff” to see if it is subject to emergency presidential powers is judicial interference of the highest order.
The president is seeking major change in our economic relationship with the rest of the world and the separation-of-powers doctrine should let him do so. The Court should get out of the way.

Understanding What We’re Really Trading
When I discuss gold with fellow investors, I often encounter confusion about what exactly we are competing against. The answer is simple: we are not just betting on a metal. We are positioning ourselves outside a global monetary system built entirely on the dominance of the US dollar, and the fallacy it was built upon.
That system, for those unfamiliar with its architecture, functions like this: Nearly every international transaction flows through dollars. When Sudan sells oil to Somalia—two countries with virtually no American trade—the deal is denominated in US currency. Not because it is convenient, but because there’s often no alternative. The infrastructure of global commerce, from pricing mechanisms to settlement systems, runs on dollars.
This arrangement, formalized through the petrodollar system in the 1970s, gives the United States an extraordinary advantage. Foreign nations must maintain massive dollar reserves to purchase energy and conduct international trade. This creates endless demand for US currency and Treasury securities, allowing America to print money and run deficits that would cripple any other nation.
For fifty years, this system has been unassailable. Until now.
The Cracks in the Foundation
Russia’s removal from SWIFT payment systems demonstrated that dollars can be weaponized. China’s establishment of yuan-denominated oil contracts proved that alternatives, however nascent, can exist. Central banks from Turkey to Poland to China have accelerated gold purchases to levels not seen in decades, often conducting these acquisitions quietly, without public fanfare.
These are not the actions of nations preparing for next quarter. These are multi-decade strategic moves.
The proposed BRICS currency, alternative payment systems, bilateral trade agreements in local currencies—everyone sees these as threats to the dollar. I see them differently. They are symptoms of a deeper realization: in a multipolar world, monetary neutrality has value. And nothing is more neutral than gold.
Why This Rally Is Different
I’ve traded through several gold bull markets. I recall the 1970s inflation surge. The 2008 financial crisis. The 2011 parabolic rise. Each had its own character, its own drivers. This one stands apart.
Previous rallies were driven primarily by Western investors seeking inflation hedges or crisis protection. They were psychological—fear trades that reversed when confidence returned.

Sliwa Is The Only Candidate Who Can Save And Beat Mamdani To Save New York
For more than 40 years, I’ve worked as a political strategist for presidents, governors, senators, and mayors.
I’ve helped shape campaigns at the highest levels — from Bill Clinton to Donald Trump — and if there’s one thing experience teaches, it’s how to recognize when the political winds are shifting.
Right now, those winds are blowing toward Curtis Sliwa.
In the three-way race for mayor of New York City between Sliwa, Andrew Cuomo, and Zohran Mamdani, the field is fragmented.
But within that division lies Sliwa’s path to victory.
In a city hungry for safety, accountability, and common sense, Curtis Sliwa is the only candidate who can unify the middle and win.
Let’s be blunt: this race is not your typical Democrat-Republican showdown.
Cuomo and Mamdani are splitting the Democratic vote right down the middle — and both are deeply flawed in ways that New Yorkers can see clearly.
Mamdani, the far-left Assemblyman from Queens, wants to close Rikers Island — yes, the city’s main jail — and effectively release thousands of criminals onto our streets.
He supports eliminating bail, gutting the very system that keeps repeat offenders off the subway platforms and away from innocent families.
His policies are anti-police, anti-jail, and anti-safety. If you like chaos, he’s your man.
Cuomo, meanwhile, paved the way for radicals like Mamdani.
It was Cuomo who championed the no-bail law, turning New York into a revolving door for criminals.
It was Cuomo who proudly declared New York a “sanctuary city,” preventing federal agents from deporting illegal immigrants who committed crimes.
Between Cuomo’s failed policies and Mamdani’s radical ideology, the city is at risk of becoming unlivable again — just as it was before Rudy Giuliani cleaned it up in the 1990s.
Curtis Sliwa is the only candidate in this race who understands the heartbeat of this city.
He’s not a polished politician — and that’s precisely why voters trust him.
A born-and-bred New Yorker, Sliwa built his reputation on action, not rhetoric.
As founder of the Guardian Angels, he patrolled dangerous neighborhoods when others looked the other way. He’s stood up for working-class New Yorkers, for law enforcement, and for victims of crime.
While Mamdani and Cuomo talk about criminal “justice reform,” Sliwa talks about protecting victims and neighborhoods.
He’s the only one who would restore bail laws, re-incarcerate repeat offenders, and support our police officers instead of vilifying them.
In a recent AARP/Gotham poll, Sliwa’s support jumped from 17% to 19.4% after a strong debate performance — and that number will rise further as voters focus on public safety, the issue that defines this election.
Let’s not forget who Andrew Cuomo really is.
His record is filled with scandal, hypocrisy, and betrayal of New Yorkers.
Cuomo’s disastrous handling of the COVID-19 pandemic led to the unnecessary deaths of thousands of seniors.
He forced nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients, a decision that resulted in mass tragedy — and then covered up the numbers.
That alone should disqualify him from public life, let alone leadership.
Then there’s his war on religion — particularly against Catholics and Jews.
Cuomo’s law enabling decades-old, anonymous lawsuits against Catholic priests and institutions has devastated the Church in New York. Nearly every Catholic diocese in the state has gone bankrupt because of it.
The New York Archdiocese is hanging by a thread, facing financial ruin.
Cuomo targeted faith institutions under the guise of “justice,” when in reality it was a cynical political play to curry favor with trial lawyers and the activist left.
And for Jewish voters — many of whom remember Cuomo’s repeated public clashes with Orthodox communities — the distrust runs deep.
It’s no wonder Rudy Giuliani, the man who saved New York once before, has endorsed Sliwa “100 percent.”
Rudy sees what I see: a divided Democratic field and a real chance for Sliwa to pull off an upset.
New York City elections are rarely about ideology — they’re about turnout and energy.
Cuomo and Mamdani will cannibalize each other’s base.
Cuomo appeals to older establishment Democrats, while Mamdani draws the activist left. That split will leave room for a third force — a candidate who appeals to the middle, to independents, and to Republicans desperate to save their city.
That’s Sliwa’s lane.
If Curtis can consolidate Republicans and conservative Democrats, while peeling away independents tired of crime, chaos, and corruption, he can win this race with as little as 35–38 percent of the total vote.
That’s entirely doable in a three-way split.
Remember: Giuliani won in 1993 because voters were fed up with crime.
They wanted a mayor who would restore order and pride to New York. We’re back in that same moment today.
This race ultimately boils down to a simple question: do New Yorkers want to feel safe again?
Mamdani wants to close the jails. Cuomo helped open the doors to them in the first place. And both men want to tie the hands of the police.
Sliwa is the only one who will stand with law enforcement, stand up for victims, and bring back common sense.
He’s not a career politician — he’s a fighter. He’s been on the subways, in the neighborhoods, and on the front lines when crime was at its worst.
He knows what it takes to turn this city around.
If New Yorkers stick together — Republicans, independents, and even moderate Democrats — Sliwa can do what no one thinks possible: win this election and restore sanity to our city.
Rudy Giuliani knows it. I know it. And soon, all of New York will too.

NYC Mayoral Race: Sliwa Coming On Strong After Debate
In the race for Mayor of New York City, a comparison of the Emerson Poll of September 7-8 and the AARP poll of October 14-15, shows a surge in support for Curtis Sliwa in the three-way race with two weeks to go.
Mamdani has held steady at 43% of the vote in both polls. Andrew Cuomo has also held steady, gaining a point to 29% (from 28% in September). The big gainer is Curtis Sliwa who has grown from only 10 percent of the vote in the Emerson Poll of September 7-8, to 19.4% in the AARP/Gotham Poll of October 14-15.
Changes in the polling in New York City have historically been minor at first, but very dramatic at the end.
Particularly because doubts about Sliwa’s chances of beating Mamdani have dogged his campaign, his surge with two weeks to go may well transform the race and give Sliwa a fighting chance to beat Mamdani.
