The decision to ask Arkansas Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders to deliver the Republican response to Biden’s State of the Union speech is inspired.
In fact, I’d like to take this opportunity to launch my Sarah for Vice President boom.
President Trump is likely looking for a woman to run on his ticket.
And he will want one who can stand up, like Hamlet, to the “slings and arrows of outrageous fortune.” Sarah did so for years as Trump’s press secretary and never flinched. She never bent. She never broke. She was never disloyal, played the hand she was dealt, and defended the president and pushed his program at every turn.
She would be an excellent bridge to the Evangelical base of the Party while not polarizing the rest of it.
And, unlike our three previous national experiences with ingenue women who seek to run for vice president: Geraldine Ferraro, Sarah Palin, and Kamala Harris, she can handle herself in public, go deep on issues, and not sound like a flake or a twit.
Her father, unlike Ferraro’s husband, has been vetted by a nearly successful presidential campaign, and her family, unlike Palin’s won’t be an embarrassment.
The contrast between her grasp of the substance of government and the ridiculous excuse for a vice president now in office will be obvious and profound.
And Sarah can pass the ultimate test: She got along and gets along well with Donald Trump. She is used to collaborating with him, sticking by him all through the bumps in the road and the challenges a hostile Congress can pose.
Trump need not look any further than Sarah!
