There is a secret Democratic master plan to derail Donald Trump and prevent him from becoming president again. I explain this strategy in my new book: The Return: Trump’s Big 2024 Comeback.
Democrats have realized that they need to weaken Trump now to head off his efforts to run again. They are using the January 6 committee to besmirch and weaken Trump and they are getting their media acolytes to promote potential Republican rivals of the former president.
The January sixth committee is trying to imply that Trump led an “insurrection” to try to overthrow our government and reverse the results of the 2020 election. They are really mirroring the tactic of communists who habitually blame the other side for doing the things they themselves are doing. Having manipulated the results of the 2020 election by massive chicanery, they now accuse Trump of doing the same thing.
But even the most partisan Democrats must realize that they can do little to impair Trump’s popularity among his MAGA base. The real purpose of the January 6 committee is to weaken Trump to attract rivals in the Republican primaries. By creating the perception of a diminished Trump whose momentum is dwindling, they hope to encourage other candidates in the Republican Party to enter the field.
While the Committee proceeds with its nefarious work, the media publicizes every move of potential opponents of Trump. No matter how anathema people like Florida Governor Ron DeSantis may be to Democrats, they are better than Trump and easier to beat.
The Republican party is blessed with a very deep bench of qualified candidates who may — at some point — run for president. Democrats can only envy a party that has people like Ron DeSantis, Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley, Nikki Hailey, Tom Cotton, and so many other talented candidates in reserve. But the Democrats want to lure them into the 2024 presidential primaries now under the ancient Roman theory of divide and conquer.
Republicans must not fall into this trap. We must not be inveigled into turning on one another and damaging our chances. The stakes are too great to let infighting weaken us. Attractive potential candidates like Ron DeSantis must not succumb to the siren song of the Democratic media and be tempted to challenge Donald Trump. It would only serve the ends of the Democratic Party.
Similarly, well-meaning Republicans who fear that Trump’s personality might drive away supporters, must realize that, in casting about for alternatives to the former president, they are doing the bidding of the Democrats.
Like him or not, Donald Trump is going to be the Republican candidate for president in 2024 if he chooses to run (which he will). Anything that weakens him impairs our vital effort to stop Biden and the Democrats from ruining America. We do not have the luxury of being picky. Trump is the candidate we have got — and we are damn fortunate and blessed to have him. You either help him or hurt him. And, in seeking a better candidate — although none exists — you are doing the Democrats a great big favor.
We all would do well to remember how, in 1980, Ted Kennedy sapped President Jimmy Carter’s strength by putting him through a primary challenge that so weakened him that Ronald Reagan was elected president.
Our Republican slogan should be: Unite! No primary! Donald Trump for President!
