Wilkerson discusses how they survived — the real miracle of the Thanksgiving holiday — and how their priorities and views — both civil and religious — laid the basis for our national ethics.
The Puritans have gotten a bad rap from the Salem Witch Trials but Wilkerson explains that the hysteria was just a small part of their heritage and, along the way, recounts the history of witchcraft in early America and England.
But his main contribution with this book is to explain how the Puritan ethic — and the Pilgrim’s history – is hardwired into our consciousness. A great read!
