How To Beat Zohran Mamdani
Socialism sells well, like the joy of sex. To beat it, we must focus public attention on the reciprocal — on the fear of pregnancy.
Free bus rides would mean a deterioration of service, longer and longer waits and dirty, filthy buses.
No rent hikes will cause tenants to have no heat, no repairs and, ultimately, no place to live.
Universal child care will deteriorate into babies sitting with no educational component.
Reduced police funding will lead to less protection.
Legal drugs and sex workers will make all of New York what 42nd street used to be at its worst.
Voters tend to pay attention to one thing at a time. Right now, the focus is on what Mamdani can do for us. We must now shift it to what he will do to us, what he will take away.
The crowded New York primary field and the seemingly remote chance of a Mamdani victory led to less focus on his candidacy and what it means. Now, to defeat him, we all need to get busy telling New Yorkers the rest of the story.
As we do so, we must raise Mamdani’s negative ratings to 50 and even 60 or 70 percent. And armed with his past statements and present positions, it will happen inevitably and quickly.
Voters tend to pay attention only to one candidate at a time. Now it must be Mamdani. By making the focus more pluralistic, we let him advance in the shadows of the other candidates’ negatives. He would not have won the primary but for our focus on Cuomo’s disgusting policy of putting badly ill and contagious people into nursing homes and on Eric Adams’ mediocrity and his failure to make New York a home for New Yorkers and not a sanctuary for criminals on the run.
But who should we vote for? Cuomo? Adams? Silwa? That question is for tomorrow. Today our focus must be on Mamdani and the threat he represents.
There will come a time to examine the merits of other candidates. Inevitably, that process will lead us to look closely at the only one with no negatives — Curtis Silwa — but that time has not yet come. For now, we must all concentrate on denouncing the myth of socialism and explaining what Mamdani will do to New York. Silwa’s only negative is the doubt about whether he can win. But let’s leave that for tomorrow’s discussion. Today we have a city to save.
