DEMOCRATS ARE GETTING IMMUNE TO CHARGES OF SOCIALISM
The Democratic roaches are developing an immunity to Republican charges that they are socialist.
Polling by John McLaughlin suggests that the impact of the charge, originally formulated by Newt Gingrich, is wearing off through repetition.
At first, it seemed like a panacea, a gift handed to us by socialist Democratic victories in New York, Michigan, Minnesota, Florida and Colorado.
McLaughlin’s polls showed that the generic Democratic advantage in answering “who would you vote for in your own district, the Democrat or the Republican?” (48 Dem; 43 Republican) turned around into a solid GOP margin when a “big government socialist Democrat” faced a “free market capitalist Republican.”
But McLaughlin says the advantage is ebbing. “But over the past two months, support for the socialist alternative has increased five points while support for the capitalist alternative has fallen four,” he says.
This chart tells the story:
A big government socialist Democrat against a free market capitalist Republican

August 40 47
Sept, 41 45
So what can we do in the last four weeks to revivify the socialist charge?
We need to flesh out the charge of socialism to indicate, in real terms, what it means for the average American.
In 1996, when I ran Bill Clinton’s campaign against the conservative agenda of my then enemy and now buddy Newt Gingrich, I worked to identify four harms that I said the Gingrich program would inflict on the average American. We settled on attacking cuts in Medicare, Medicaid, education and the environment. MMEE became our watchword and slogan.
Now we need to examine the socialist agenda and select four specific things it would do to the average American. By hammering on these four issues — one each week in the time remaining — we can make the election turn on these issues rather than become a referendum on Trump or the GOP.
So, amid a plethora of targets, here are my four suggestions:
- Elimination of private health insurance.
Confront voters with the loss of control of their own health care decisions amid government control.
- Open borders, unlimited illegal immigration and no deportation even of criminal aliens.
The elimination of borders and the influx of tens of millions of criminals as allowed by Biden.
- Huge tax increases
Big government means big taxes, particularly on the middle class. Repeal of the very popular no tax on tips, overtime or Social Security.
- Catch and release of criminals with no bail
No sooner does a cop risk his life to apprehend a murderer or a rapist or a mugger than he will be freed without bail.
By making these issues, the key questions in the Midterms, we can truly defeat the big government socialists and preserve our free enterprise system.
