Dick is correct about Michigan being a major battlefield in the 08 campaign for the GOP nomination. Given that this commentary is about one week old, he does not fully capture McCain's surge in New Hampshire. McCain is now in a virtual dead-heat with Romney for the Granite State now and a McCain victory there (combined with a Huckabee victory in Iowa) will all but doom Romney's chances. Romney will still compete in Michigan but will not win.

Romney is already showing signs of panic with his sharp attacks on McCain over taxes during the Christmas holiday break. Given that Romney raised taxes by at least $700 in Massachusetts durings his tenure as Governor, he has a lot of nerve attacking McCain.
