GOP STRONG ON ECONOMY

By Dick Morris

How interesting that the latest Rasmussen poll shows the two parties tied on the issue of who can best handle the economy at the same time that Obama gets at 56 percent job approval rating.

Only 44 percent feel that the Democrats are best at handling the economy (as opposed to 43 percent for the Republicans). So about 13 points’ worth of voters approve of Obama but doubt his party’s ability to handle the economy.

This indicates that a drop in his approval ratings down to the mid-40s is in the cards.

    I have a great idea.

We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect Union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.

    hmm… No, wait a minute.

I do think that some people already thought of this.

Oh, Yes, those people would have been our founding fathers. Yes, that’s right. These are the word of the U.S. Constitution Preamble.

Wow, what a concept. A government that forms a more perfect union, establishes justice, insures domestic tranquility, provides for the common defense, secures the blessing of liberty to us and those who follow. And, I did not forget, a government that actually “promotes” the general welfare, instead of crushing it!

Perhaps there is a bit of ‘forgetting’ involved. Obama and the Democrats seem to have forgotten they were elected with a lot of skepticism and then without hesitation decided to unleash this massive spending spree and making decesions about our lives on the fly.

I also sense Obama is trying to say that if this thing fails it is not his fault but the Republicans and Bush for starting the problem. The current economic downturn is not a present day scenario nor has it happened during the last few years. This problem has been in the making over the last 40 years and is analogous to blowing up a balloon; as more air is pumped inside, the larger it becomes until it reaches its expansion point, and then will burst if that is exceeded.

Largely fueled by a housing boom (that assumed prices of homes would always increase), state governments who spent like crazy (because they thought property taxes would never stop rising), the plastic credit card industry handing out cards like candy to anybody and the liberalization of government spending under the Social Security program that has lead to an accumulated 300 trillion dollars of debt in the economy or about $6,000 for every person in the country.

No, Obama’s name is etched in stone (MSNBC euphemism - give credit where it is due) on this and Yogi Berra once said, ‘it ain’t over until the fat lady sings’. I believe in two years she will sing and Obama will be about as popular as kryptonite is to Superman.
