MCCAIN CAMPAIGN ASLEEP?

By Dick Morris
07.11.2008

Ten days ago the Obama campaign launched a new TV ad “Dignity” in 19 states. It talked about how he had pushed for welfare-to-work laws (despite the fact that he opposed the 1996 welfare reform law), worked his way through college, and wants to tax companies that move jobs abroad. It is a move-to-the-center ad, a key piece of his repositioning.

And, except for a four state Republican Party ad buy attacking the Democrats on energy, the McCain campaign has yet to answer. With Obama flip flopping on issues from gun control to public financing to late term abortion to the fairness doctrine to merit pay for teachers, McCain needs to go on the air pronto to pin Obama’s ears back for his flip flops.

McCain…….too much fiber with a Geritol defficiency. McCain is being out smarted by Obama’s campaign staff and advisors, and by the time he decides to counter Obama’s offensive, the election will be over…..and I fear that Obama will prevail….of course not without McCain indirect help. His campaign advisors are doing him an injustice, and no matter what you write or my insignificant quasi-political comments, he will defeat himself by his owns hands……just like Hillary did. Hillary’s 18 million vote card is about to expire and she will still be plagued by her 30 million campaign debt……all by her doing……and so will McCain….into history they will both enter.

For some reason, Senator McCain has lost his old self-confidence — perhaps because the journalists aren’t laughing at his jokes like they did back in 2000, when he was running against a Republican, George W. Bush.

But great leaders do not get psyched out by the press, or by advisors. John McCain needs a Ronald Reagan moment, when he reasserted himself by telling George HW Bush “I paid for this microphone!”

I simply do not understand the campaign Senator McCain is running. Barack Obama has misled the left and now he is attempting to mislead the center. I agree with your assessment, Mr. Morris, of Obama’s absurd and baseless claim that he led people from “welfare to work” when the record clearly shows he opposed the measure. Given Obama’s razor thin record, McCain should consider it a divine gift he actually has some real ammunition with which to fire back.
I also think Senator McCain should have immediately nailed Obama on the “16 months” debacle. Obama has so obviously abandoned his beloved “time table,” though no one seems to be calling him on it! You cannot say on one hand that you will get the troops out in 16 months, and on the other hand affirm that the pace of the withdrawal will be dictated by the events on the ground. The only way Obama could claim this were true is if he asserts that should the 16th month arrive, no matter what the generals say or how dangerous it would be for us to evacuate, he would pull out all the troops. If McCain presses Obama to answer on this issue, Obama has two choices, the above-described being the first. If he makes this assertion, that he will pull all the troops out no matter what, McCain can expound on how dangerous and arbitrary it is. McCain can point out how ludicrous it would be for Obama to pace the withdrawal based on facts and expert advice for 15 months, and then abandon those same facts and expert advise. Obama will never admit to this because it makes him look like a boob. The only other choice is for Obama to abandon the idea of 16 months and admit he cannot give any real time table for withdrawal. With that, McCain can slam Obama as a man who has misled the left and whose policies on the war are sounding a lot more like George Bush’s than his.
When will John McCain fire back?

[…] Por outro lado, McCain têm apresentado uma campanha medíocre e desorganizada. Pior, ele, ao contrário de Reagan em 1984 deixa bastante claro sua idade: isso fica meio evidente […]
