HILLARY’S ASSASSINATION REMARK

By Dick Morris
05.23.2008

Everybody who has thought seriously about the Obama candidacy, including me and probably including the Senator himself, have reflected on the horrible possibility that he would be assassinated. One cannot think about Obama, the Kennedy-esque candidate without worrying about his safety. But we all observe the discipline of not raising the issue in public. We all worry that to do so would be to encourage some maniac to take a shot. Now Hillary has violated this unstated but heretofore universal taboo and brought up the possibility. That is not to say that she is hoping for a murder. But it is to say that the possibility is uppermost in her mind and a significant part of her rationale for staying in the race. And, by raising it, she has made it more possible.

Surely, the supers will step in and end this fiasco in the next few days. One has to question Hiliary’s mental fitness for the nation’s highest office… the list of charges is long (I would only mention Bosnian sniper fire for an example) but it is way past time for this woman to be shown to the exits. I think she has now destroyed any future political career after she completes her present Senate term. Can you imagine the cool reception she will receive when she returns to the Senate??

Today I really feel sadened by the damage Senator Clinton has done to herself. My compasion should not be mistaken for ignorance. I have seen Senator Clinton’s use of divisive politics at the expense of the populace and I have always believed she would take the primary nomination into the convention given any chance to do so.

Well, better now in the primary we find out how she handles herself under intense stress. The Superdelegates have a responsibility to party and country to put an end to this campaign as soon as possible. I am just sick with sadness that it has gone on beyond the point of healthy returns for all Democrats involved. The inner circle of her campaign has failed her on so many levels. I hope someone can help her down from her position.

The comment was meant to stoke people’s fears about Obama and further Clinton’s theme that Obama = vulnerability. Hillary hopes that her harsh tactics and tenacity inspire a sense of strength and security, which they do - particularly amongst racists, uneducated, poor, etc.

The fact that her comments could make Obama less safe are irrelevant to her. She is narcissistic and so her grandiose sense of self importance combined with a lack of empathy for other people makes her not think twice about this. For the same reason she is shocked that she isn’t winning and can only chalk it up to sexism or some other perceived injustice.

To me the most interesting thing about Hillary is to see how Americans feel about Machiavellian ethics and ruthless personal ambition. Many people feel that the ends justify the means and that as long as Hillary advocates policies they care about then her tactics - while horrid - are no big deal and typical for a politician. These folks think that people with an opposing view are naive or sanctimonious.

Others - like me - think that the character of an action dictates its morality regardless of the outcome. A lie is a lie. Race-baiting is race-baiting. Invoking RFK’s murder is reckless. To me, a President is like the coach of my daughter’s soccer team. I care that she teaches teamwork, good sportsmanship, fair play because I want my child to have these values whether they make her rich and successful, or just a nice person. One of our friends has a daughter on a team that always wins, but the coach uses foul language, benches the weaker players, and encourages her players to beat up and cause injury to the opponent’s best players. While the team “wins”, the children lose. This is how I feel about Hillary’s tactics and ethics. To me comments like the RFK one do far more damage than any health care bill could correct.

I find it fascinating how Hillary polarizes Americans along moral/ethical lines.

If, God forbid, anything happens to Obama….Hillary can blame herself for her wreckless, self-centered, STUPID comments! More than ever she needs to go away. Unfortunately, I think we are all stuck with her “win by doing ANYTHING you have to” strategy for a LONG time! This was the absolute lowest!

I totally agree with the previous posts. For me if this were another politician I might be inclined to accept the explanation and apology but in the case of HRC I see everything she does as a cold calculation. I believe the comment was deliberate, the risk of media response limited by the long weekend calculated and the deplorable action taken. What I do not understand is the lack of a Superdelegate flood to Obama as a way for supposedely intelligent people who actually care about the Democratic Party to tell her “enough”. I truly hope Obama has the sense to do whatever is necessary to keep her off the ticket.

Cold, calculated Hillary Clinton just finished herself off with the inappropriate assasination remarks. Spin Doctors are not going to be able to repair the damage of this self inflicted wound. As a Senator, the former First Lady and political aficionado she knew exactly what her remarks would imply. It’s almost incomprehensible she would make such a callous statement. While I understand there may be some “buyers remorse” on behalf of some Democrats since their embrace of Obama in the early primaries, Hillary has the right to attempt to wrestle the nomination away from Obama, but not at the expense of bringing up assasination.

Although she has apologized and said she meant no offense; the damage has been done. Dick, even though I never cared for Hillary I used to think your intense dislike of her sometimes shaded your opinions, but not any longer. It is paramount Hillary never be President based on her “take no prisoners” attitude in her political objectives. The only thing which could top this whopper would be Obama being persuaded to tap Hillary as his VP from the DNC. Unless Obama intends to sleep with one eye open at all times!

Hillary has brought to the forefront of the campaign what every American was thinking……and there is no harm in thinking about worst a worse case situation…….but to mention that on national television..is absolutely insane. She can make all the excuses she wants and say that it was not was she was implying, but we all know that that is political bullsh**. She has executed a personal ad to every nut that is out there with an indirect invitation….and of course the media just amplifies that invitation. Life is very funny……and in most instances a “double edge sword”…..it cuts both ways.

Hasn’t that thought crossed my mind too, again God forbid Hillary it does cut both ways!! We have a world full of nut cases…..for all your political saavy….you have lost your practical insightfulness HRC!!
