EDWARDS CATCHES THE LATE TRAIN

By Dick Morris

It took Edwards four months to make up his mind to belatedly endorse Obama for president. His backing, now, is really an effort to play catch-up and to avoid being consigned to irrelevance should Obama win the election. But the process which led Edwards to act is emblematic of that which will assure Obama of sufficient delegates to win the nomination. No longer is it a question of whether to endorse Obama or Hillary. Now the professional politicians who are the uncommitted superdelegates have to rush to get seats on the late train for Obama before it leaves the station. With just shy of 1900 delegates, the Illinois Senator is only about 140 votes short of the nomination. With about 50 delegates likely to come to him on Tuesday when Kentucky and Oregon vote, that leaves 90 slots on the bandwagon still open. Super delegates will be vying with one another to get in their reservations so they can be for Obama before he gets the majority.

It took Edwards a long time…and might get AG out of the deal. What tickled me the most was the “headline” upset! Timing couldn’t have been better in my opinion! Well crafted move. Love seeing the Clintons hood winked by their own game!

Dick: You were on target so many months ago regarding the Democratic primaries. And you are right……everyone now is starting to position themselves in the race and realizing that Obama will be the Democratic nominee. What Hillary and Bill can’t digest and probably will never except is that a freshman congressman took down the Clinton political machine…which demonstrates that times are changing and old pollitical strategies of the past are not effective anymore. At least Edwards got a ticket for the Obama Express……..a little late…but he got a seat. The remaining political delegates will eventually buy a ticket on the Obama Express, however, there will only be standing room if they continue to delay. Her decision to continue to reamin in order to make Obama bleed more for her possible 2012 run for the White House; well, she will be almost 69 in 2012…….not there is anything wrong with that…..will place her in the McCain age category…..another concern of the American voter……of course if McCain is elected…well that would negate that theory….but I don’t think he will. Stay well…..because without your analysis……this would have been one very “boring” election campaign. Tell O’Reilly to have you more on his show…..I noticed that he takes every word you say as “bible.” In fact, tell O’Reilly to take a vacation and have you fill in for him while he is gone…..surely will be refreshing to see you rather than some of the other lame fill-ins……Continued success..

Edwards timing was terrific. It took Clinton’s win in W. Virginia right out of the news.
