The defeat of the immigration bill will boost the chances of a Democratic victory in 2008, giving Hillary Clinton, the probable Democratic candidate, a strong advantage. Hispanic voters will undoubtedly blame the Republicans for the failure of the bill. In 2004, Bush made progress among Latino voters, coming within ten points of Kerry among Hispanics, having lost them by 30 points to Gore four years before. But in 2006, Latinos voted Democrat by more than 40 points according to exit polls because of their anger at the harsh Republican immigration proposals. Now that the Republicans have defeated the immigration bill, they will very likely pay a steep price at the polls in 2008.
The price is likely to be compounded by the probability that a Democratic Congress and president after the 08 election will pass some form of immigration reform, probably a bill even more to the liking of the Hispanic community than the Bush proposal Congress just defeated.

I would not be so worried about it (if I were Republican), since we have no right to sell our votes and sacrifice the well being of our people.
I am sure, that the legal citizens of this country, Hispanics or not, will understand it… I know a lot of US Hispanics that are not in favor of the new bill.

Geez Dick, you make it sound as if the future of our country lies in the hands of hispanics. I guess I should raise a white flag of surrender and break out the beans & rice recipe. Of course a spanish language course would be mandatory now that the hispanics are running the show. Should we lower the colors above the white house and raise the mexican flag. After all thats what these illegals are really after.

I personally think that so many people are angry at the situation, they will vote for anyone who was against the immigration bill. This is truly a bi-partisan issue, and most people I know want the borders sealed immediately, and strict employer penalties implemented.
The Hispanic vote is not nearly as monolithic as you suppose. Many Hispanics are Catholics and socially conservative. The immigration issue is grossly underestimated. Bush was foolish to push for comprehensive immigration legislation but he knew it would give a chance for other Republicans to back away from him and gather support while Democrats tried to figure out which way to go. It worked. Republican party registrations went up. McCain should have saw that coming, but like you, he underestimated the full impact of the immigration issue on a national level. Here is why the issue has such power. Nurses, waiters, bartenders, dentists, and police officers have the daily experience of being confronted with immigrants who do not know English and often suspect such persons as being illegal immigrants. Libertarian minded folks oppose the Real ID act. Constitutionalists oppose efforts to change the Constitution regarding being American by birth. Conservatives oppose amnesty why businesses go short on labor.
There is plenty of wiggle room, but to say it benefits Democrats is a mistake.
Right on Fishhead…..>>>
Freedom fighter : I totally agree with you on the English part as I am a Sheriff, and encountered that problem almost every day, but, the truth be told, there is ‘no’ shortage of American workers. There are a large group of construction workers protesting still about construction only hiring Hispanics because of them receiving $15. an hour, while the American union guys get $ 24. an hour .
I dont believe that there is any wiggle room, the Demos once they get in a Pres. will pass anything even Amnesty to all, including Anchor-Babies,because The Democratic Congress wont even try to change the 14th Amend,Sect. 1 from jus soli, to modern day,jus sanguinis, right now. this is the worst Congress ever in history…!!! Is it any wonder that they only have a 24% rating ?
To show just how old the jus soli is, it was for the African slave babies, since they were ‘forced’ to come here. Forgetting about the 14th after the slave issue was settled, and moved on to more of the future times, Hispanics are cashing in on Congress’s failures to change it to JUS Sangunis.
Now it looks like it may be like Reagan did ,grant them all Amensty, because it is the easiest thing to do…. Reagan stated it was the ‘worst’ Judgement call he ever made.
The ‘Anchor Baby’ amnesty thing will bring over 380. million more Hispanics to this country because of the citizenship of their babies,, which extends to their extended family, about 10 more family members each….
How well do you speak Spanish, Amigo…..
I wonder who, or where does one find ways on changing the Constitutionalists view point, and why are they so stubborn….??????
They must be Hispanic, or pro-Amenesty persons…
380,000 ‘anchor-babies’, and 44,000 more in the next
2 years.
This will without any doubt be known as
the “NEWEST” Mexico…….and in the very, very near future …!!! Hablo Espanol ?
