Bush is now slowly twisting in the wind, disregarded by the Democrats, disliked by the country, and increasingly disdained by his own party. The immigration bill defeat shows that all three are in play.
He needs to get back in the game. The key is to take some large policy — like Iranian nuclear weapons — and make it his own. Bush’s flip flops on climate change and his vigor in prosecuting Sudan are steps in the right direction, but he needs to get his head back in the game of deterring Iranian nuclear weapons. That subject has long been the only one with the tensile strength to overcome Iraq in the voters’ minds. He should begin acting like he is president again and taking this issue and making it his centerpiece.

For Bush to win back the support of the nation, I believe he would have to admit he was wrong on the immigration bill. That isn’t going to happen, so his popularity will continue to shrink. As a natural born citizen of this country, who spent two years of active duty in the US Army, I don’t trust anything this government says about the immigration bill. They didn’t inforce the laws already on the books, and they are not building the wall that Bush signed up on. I am totally fed up with being concidered a racist for wanting the laws of this country to be inforced. If I commit a crime, I go to jail. If I use someone elses social security number and get caught, I go to jail. Illegals continue to commit crimes, and now bush and the democratic cronies in washington are ready to reward them for their crimes. I say enough is enough.

I saw a focus group interview on CSPAN last week. One of the women - a long time Republican - said she doesn’t understand why we’re in Iraq. If you ask me, this is exactly the problem with Bush - he cannot clearly explain his policies to the public. If he could, maybe he would have had more success. But I don’t see how any of these policy initiative would gain any traction as Bush will be completely ineffectual at combating the spin against them.
What in the world can we do to get through to Bush?
Seems like he doesn’t care about our country anymore!
