GOP SHOULD BACK IMMIGRATION COMPROMISE

By Dick Morris

The Republican Party can decide whether it lives or dies by whether or not it blocks the immigration compromise from passing this year. If they stop it from going through and a Democratic President pushes it through a Democratic Congress in 2009, the GOP will suffer as much among Hispanic voters as it did among black voters after Barry Goldwater crusaded against the Civil Rights Bill in his 1964 election campaign. Until Goldwater did that, blacks usually voted Republican. Kennedy won over about 60% of them when he called Correta Scott King while her husband was in jail. But LBJ got the 90% of the black vote that has since become his party’s expected share as a direct result of Goldwater’s campaign.

If the Republican Party passes this bill while a GOP president can still sign it and take partisan credit for it, they will have a very good chance of winning the Latino vote in the future. If not, they will be ground under the demographic changes in America just as the Labor Party was in the early years of the 20th century.

I have the feeling the GOP is going to be damned if they do and damned if they don’t go along with this compromise bill. I don’t like it, but I see no other way the GOP can convince Latinos that the Dems are just wolves in sheep’s clothing. I just don’t look forward to rewarding bad behavior on the part of the illegals and the lawbreaking employers. I’m not afraid of a “brown tide”…I’m afraid of the laws of the land being so easily thrown to the side. What happened to this land being a place of pride and responsibility? I’m disgusted with all of the mealy-mouthed politicians who let this flood of illegals happen, starting with the compromise of 1986. I wish we could send all of the interlopers back and tell them to come here the correct way…legally! If you see Geraldo, tell him for me I think his ethnic allegiances are blinding him to the reality of the crimes these ILLEGALS have wrought on our society!! The illegals from other than Latino countries need to leave too…no quarter for lawbreakers!! No free pass to citizenship!! My first requirement would be that anyone wanting to come here needs to learn to SPEAK ENGLISH before they’re allowed entry! I’m sorry if I seem a little riled up about this issue, but I think this gang of politicians are the most unproductive, selfish, small-minded narcissists I’ve ever witnessed!! God help us all….am I allowed to mention the deity here???LOL!

If the Republican passes the immigration bill they will loose voters like me. I am white in my 50’s and I vote in every presidential election. The fact of the matter is that they do not want to enforce The laws that are on the books now and no one really believes that the illegals that are in the country now are going to go back to apply for citizen ship.

Count tour money before you vote; a vote for immigration reform will reduce long term benefits to all Americans. Immigration costs include Medicare, Social Security, Welfare (because of the rest of the families of those whose qualify to stay). Your once and future retirement will be threatened. . . and twenty years from now they will teach “Spanish as a Second Language”! Medicare deductibles could double or triple to almost $400 per year.

Also, Ted Kennedy and his crew want votes and immigration reform means votes for the Dems.

How about going after the employers who have not been deducting Social Security, Disability, and other taxes. How about back taxes; do we tax the country of Mexico? Can we auto-deduct from monies going out of the country? What about Visa and Master Card debit cards being used in Mexico to eliminate the cost of tracing “wired money”? It is easy to deposit in the United States and withdraw in Mexico. Sounds good to me!!

    What do you think?

The current immigration bill will dilute and destroy the fabric of America.
    PERIOD!!! NO DISCUSSION !!!
We either start bringing in northern Europeans, and Asians, and specifically skilled people through Immigration, or we become and elitist/forever poor underclass society.? Can anyone say EVITA? And the socialist/ fascist state from Argentina?

I am 65 and a Republican who voted for Bush twice! He is NOT the person I voted for in 2000 & 2004. This Bill must be stopped and enforcement MUST be done first. Then after the 2008 election we can take on this issue again but not until then!

What the hell has happened to the Republican party? I have been a loyal Pubbie voter since 1972, and I am disgusted. I am constantly dunned for contributions by various Republican/conservative entities, but no one seems to care about what I think. Just gimme the money and shut up!. I am NOT giving the money without asking a lot of questions and getting the right answers in the future. First correct answer, “no we have no intention of rewarding law-breaking, illegal immigrants with voting rights.”

The Berlin Wall was built to keep people prisoners of Communism. Tearing down the wall was to free those people. Our border war is to keep freedom! If not a wall on the Southern Border, then put the National Guard there full time forever! To say that this Republican Congress should pass this bill is to say that the future Hispanic vote is more important than the current U.S. Citizens vote! The future of this country is truly at stake. President Bush is WRONG! We must be heard! Do NOT give up!
